Bhubaneswar: After an unprecedented increase in positive cases and fatalities in July, Odisha continued to witness an upward trend in the COVID-19 graph with a record single-day spike of 1602 new cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the COVID-19 tally in the State reached 33,479 on Sunday.

As per the information shared by I&PR department, maximum 308 cases were reported from Ganjam district followed by Khurda (285 new cases ), Rayagada (164 new cases), Gajapati (108 new cases) and Cuttack (54 new cases) in the last 24 hours.

Apart from the biggest spike, Odisha's COVID-19 death toll reached 187 after 10 more positive patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours. As per the Health and Family Welfare Department, five COVID-19 positive patients died in Ganjam district while three deaths ( including two in Bhubaneswar) were reported from Khurda district. Gajapati and Sundergarh districts registered one death each.
