Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre here issued thunderstorm and rainfall alert for the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar till 12.30 PM on Thursday.

"Light to moderate rain/thunderstorm with one or two spells of intense (2-3 cm/hour) rainfall very likely to occur over Bhubaneswar and Cuttack city area," informed the Met Centre.


Apart from temporary traffic congestion, roads may get slippery and poor visibility may occur under the influence of the rainfall, warned the Met Centre.

Besides, the Met office has also advised people of the Twin Cities to avoid movement during these hours as much as possible.

Earlier on Wednesday, the weather department had issued yellow warning with possibility of heavy rainfall for one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Angul, Khurda, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Rayagada for today.

As per the bulletin issued by the Met department, thunderstorm with lightning is expected occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur and Deogarh on Thursday.

On October 16, thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Boudh, Kalahandi and Kandhamal, said the bulletin.
