Malkangiri: In view of the surge in COVID-19 cases, Malkangiri municipality has been declared as containment zone. Malkangiri district Collector, Manish Agarwal on Thursday declared entire Malkangiri municipality area as containment zone after 21 COVID-19 cases were reported from the area.

Moreover, eight new COVID-19 cases were reported from Malkangiri district in the last 24 hours

As per the official order, the containment zone has been ordered to restrict the movement of people and carry out intensive surveillance and contact tracing.

“In the containment zone, there shall be stricter perimeter to ensure that there is no movement of population in or out of the zone except for medical emergencies and for maintaining supply of essential goods and services,” the official notification read.

Activities In The Containment Zone:

-No public shall be allowed to move into or go out of the containment zone.

-Movement of persons allowed only for maintaining supply of goods and services and for medical emergencies.

-All the shopping establishments, markets in the containment zone shall remain closed except supply of essential and medical requirements through various teams authorised by district administration.

The executive officer of Malkangiri municipality has been directed to engage service providers for ensuring that people get all the essential services at their door-step. Elaborate plans have been made by Fire services to fumigate and sanitise the areas in the containment zone while the health officials will also conduct health screening of people in the affected parts.

The district administration is now reportedly conducting an intensive surveillance as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the State Health department. Home quarantine of individuals will be based on the assessment by Medical officer. The risk assessment will be based on symptoms, contact with confirmed COVID-19 cases and travel history.

Special teams have been constituted for house-to-house surveillance and clinical management of all cases will be as per the prescribed COVID-19 management protocol, the official notification read.
