Bhubaneswar: As many as 91 persons have tested positive for Covid-19 under Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area in the last 24 hours with 26 of them linked to a single positive case in Mancheswar area.

Out of the 91 fresh positives, 72 are quarantine cases while 19 are local contacts. Similarly, 99 patients have recuperated from the disease in Bhubaneswar, informed the BMC.

With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in the capital city surged to 1343 which included 606 active cases, 724 recoveries and 11 deaths.

Among the new positives, the aforesaid 26 have been detected from a flour mill near Mancheswar. Similarly, 14 cases were reported from Ganpati Nagar Basti in IRC Village area. At least nine staff of a construction company near Rajmahal Chhak and three persons of Trinath Basti in Nayapalli have also contracted the virus, informed the BMC.

“Further contact tracing is still continuing. Primary contacts and nearby houses are being quarantined, sanitised & will be under active surveillance,” added the BMC.

Earlier, a 64-year-old man of Sector 16 in Rourkela who had tested positive with the virus turned out to be a super spreader when the authorities traced his contacts and found that he had infected more than 100 persons. However, he succumbed to the disease while undergoing treatment.
