Sundargarh: In a tragic incident, a woman went missing after accidentally falling into Ib River near Kanakunda while clicking a selfie on Sunday.

The woman has been identified as Anupama Prajapati, a native of Kumbharpada area of Rajgangpur.

According to sources, the woman, who came to the tourist destination for a picnic, was taking a selfie when she accidentally slipped into the river and swept away by strong water currents.

Soon after the incident, locals, police and Fire department officials launched a massive search operation, but could not trace the woman. The search operation was underway till the last report came in.

Earlier on Friday, a youth identified as Satya Parija of Kaliagaan area had drowned in Duduma waterfall near Semiliguda in Koraput district.

Satya fell into the waterfall and went missing while he was clicking a selfie. Though his friends launched a search operation, they could not trace him.

Later on Saturday, his body was fished out by the fire services personnel and ODRAF team from the water body.

In another incident where selfie proved fatal, a youth was charred to death while clicking selfie by climbing atop a train at Paralakhemundi railway station in Gajapati district on December 16.

The youth came in contact with the live wire over the stationary train while clicking a selfie. Soon, the tarpaulin over the train also caught fire. One of the bogies was damaged in the fire.
