Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has now chalked out a detailed mechanism to assess the performance of the teachers in schools and junior colleges across the State.
According to School and Mass Education department, students of class 9, 10 and 11 will now evaluate the performance of their teachers. As per the mechanism, each teacher will be rated out of ten points. The teachers will be given excellent in their report card if they secure 10 out of 10. A teacher will get A+ if he or she scores 9 marks and A in case of 8 marks. Likewise, teachers who get 7.5 marks will be awarded B+.
Besides, the teachers will be issued show cause notice if 30 per cent students rate them below 7.5 and action will be initiated against such teachers, if required.
Sources said that the students will have to mention their names and roll numbers along with their parents’ names in the report card of the teachers.
The headmasters of each school will submit a final comprehensive report in this regard to their respective District Education Officers once a month, added the sources.
“The initiative has been rolled out as part of the 5Ts being implemented in the Mass Education department. The teachers assessment and result analysis will be conducted area wise and discussed during the parents’ meeting,” informed School and Mass Education Minister Samir Das.
While the initiative has been welcomed and appreciated by the students and educationists of the State, some experts have cited concerns over the successful implementation of the initiative.
Samir Patra, a teacher from Balasore welcomed the move and said, “This is a very good step undertaken by the State government. Now the teachers will be forced to come to the schools or colleges regularly on time and complete classes. However, the decision should be implemented properly.”
“I think this move will not be effective and successful unless CCTV cameras are installed in each class room and Biometric Fingerprint Attendance System is facilitated in the schools,” Educationist Santosh Kumar Rout said.
