Balasore: In another major crackdown on drugs trading, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch along with Balasore Police has seized 1.105 kg brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore following a raid at Sahadevkhunta area here on Friday. Three drug peddlers - Sk Jamir alias Chhotu of Masjid Gali, Arada Bazar; Prabhat Sethy of Nayabazar; and Jasobant Bagh alias Sukuras of Kasimela, all local residents have been arrested.

On the basis of intelligence input in connection with illegal trade of narcotic drugs, the STF and Balasore Police conducted a raid near Hotel Jyoti Sugar, Sahadevkhunta and apprehended the three accused.

During the search, brown sugar weighing 1.105 kg, cash of Rs 85680 and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from their possession.

After the accused failed to produce any valid authority in support of the possession of such contraband material, they were arrested and forwarded to the court based on a case registered by the STF under Sections 21(c), 29 NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is on.

So far this year, STF alone has seized 23.273 kg of Brown Sugar and detected 25 cases against the drug peddlers. As many as 47 drug peddlers have been arrested in 2020, the STF claimed.
