Bhubaneswar: The searing heat waves continued to hold the state in a vice-like grip as mercury of the state capital touched 46.6 degree Celsius on Wednesday, throwing life out of gear completely. The temperature was so unbearable that all the roads wore a deserted look almost throughout the day, barring an option-less few.

Drivers of the auto rickshaws, mainly depending on the daily commuters for their daily bread and butter, also cursed the continuous spell of sunny days for their no-incomes. City bus conductors also corroborated similar opinion.
