Baripada: In a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19, various citizen forums in Baripada have urged the district administration to impose a seven-day shutdown in the city.
Various youth associations, business bodies, trade unions and advocates’ unions met the collector on Saturday and urged him to announce the enforcement from September 27 to October 3.
“Baripada is witnessing a spurt in Covid-19 infection. Government is taking several majors to check the surge. Our business association along with other public forums also have decided to call for a minimum seven-day shutdown to break the chain of Covid-19 infection in the city. We hope that people will cooperate in the process,” said the Baripada Business Association general secretary Saroj Kumar Bose.
However the citizens’ forums said that shops selling essential commodities will remain open during the shutdown period.

“Covid-19 has taken many lives in India. To check the surge of the pandemic we have to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO). We request people to stay home during this shutdown period unless they have some urgent work,” said Bhanja Sena district president Pintu Maiti.
