Bhubaneswar: All MLAs and staff at the state assembly will undergo COVID-19 tests from today ahead of the Monsoon Session of the state legislature, beginning from September 29.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Prem Chandra Choudhary said that the sanitisation programme will be launched as the monsoon session of the state assembly is scheduled to continue till October 7.

“We have got the list of around 900 people including MLAs and other officials who are supposed to attend the session. They will be tested for coronavirus during the next three days,” said Choudhary.

“The first-day testing will be conducted in two-shifts, and for the next two days, testing will be carried out in the first half only. The entire process is in keeping with the COVID-19 health protocol.  If someone tests positive, he/she can proceed on home isolation. Those who test positive and show critical symptoms will have to shift to COVID-19 hospitals,” he added.

An order from the Odisha Assembly also added that a selected few media person will be allowed inside the building, who will have to undergo Covid-19 tests as well.
