Nayagarh: In a macabre act, a man was allegedly chased and hacked to death by a group of assailants at Malisahi village in Baunsiapadia area the district late on Tuesday night. Previous enmity is said to be the reason behind the gruesome murder that has sent shockwaves across the district.
The deceased has been identified as Khetrabasi Mohapatra.
According to sources, Mohapatra had an altercation with some fellow villagers last night following which he filed a complaint in that regard with the Itamati police station.
Following police's intervention in the matter, Mohapatra returned home. However, when he was at home some of the miscreants allegedly called him out. As he stepped out he was allegedly chased by the armed miscreants who attacked him with sharp weapons. He succumbed to his injuries instantaneously. He was found lying in a pool of blood in the morning, sources said adding that he was dead by then.
After the Itamati police was informed, a team rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the gruesome murder.
Though the exact motive behind the attack is still not known, past enmity is believed to be reason behind the murder.
