Sambalpuri Shri Ganeet Saree Worn By Vidya Balan Goes Under Hammer

Bhubaneswar: Remember the Sambalpuri saree worn by actress Vidya Balan for promotion of her recently launched movie Shankuntala Devi? Well the elegant hand-woven Shri Ganeet saree can be yours as it is now up for sale through an e-auction.

Utkalamrita, a brand of Sabat Exports Pvt Ltd informed that the bidding process has already begun from August 15 and the highest bid received for the saree till yesterday was Rs 28,000. The bidding will close on August 20, 10 PM.

The main idea for online auction is to promote the weaver of the beautiful saree, Bhagabat Meher.

“Whatever money is generated from the online auction, we will give it to Bhagabat Meher as it will be a token of appreciation for his efforts and talent,” said Amrita Sabat, Managing director of Sabat Exports Pvt Ltd and founder-director of Utkalamrita.

Amrita further informed that we thank Vidya Balan for wearing the special Mathematics Sambalpuri Bandha Silk Saree on July 30, 2020 for the e-promotion of her movie Shakuntala Devi.

First prototype of this saree was woven in the year- 2015-16
Purpose- Applying for State Handloom Award
Unique Concept- Mathematics symbols, formulae, equations as if written on a Blackboard with chalk
Concept and Design of- Shri Prafulla Meher, Sonepur
Weaver Name- Bhagabata Meher from Tikirapada, Subalaya, Birmaharajpur, Sonepur
