Sambalpur: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nitesh Ganga Deb had a close shave as he narrowly escaped in what could have turned a fatal road accident while he was returning from Sambalpur on Thursday night.

According to sources, the mishap took place at around 9:45 PM yesterday when a truck reportedly hit the MP's car from behind on National Highway-49 near Kurada area under Deogarh police limits during his return.

A representative of the MP informed that Ganga Deb was present in the vehicle when the mishap occurred. Two more persons including the PSO and the driver were also present.

Fortunately it didn't turn out to be a life-threatening accident, as all the occupants are safe. The MP's vehicle has suffered minor dents on the back door, reports claimed.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case in this regard. The driver of the truck has also been detained and is being interrogated, sources said.

On Thursday, a two-year-old boy died after he was run over by a speeding car at the Labour Tenament area under Raghunathpali police station in Rourkela. Palpable tension prevailed as the locals staged a road blockade demanding compensation to the victim's family and immediate arrest of the culprit. Earlier in the day, a woman and her minor son were killed while her husband sustained critical injuries after they were hit by an unknown vehicle near Khantapada police station in Balasore district. The mishap occurred when the trio was reportedly on its way to Bhadrak from Seragada on a scooter.
