Malkangiri: As Covid-19 cases continue the upward trend in Malkangiri district, the district administration on Sunday announced complete lockdown in Malkangiri Municipality and Balimela NAC area for one week.

The lockdown which will come into effect from 12 am of July 13 will continue till the midnight of July 19, as per the official order issued by the district administration.

During the lockdown, no public transport services including operation of taxis, auto-rickshaws will be permitted. However, all kinds of transport to and from hospitals will be allowed.

All shops, commercial establishments, offices, factories, workshops, and godowns will remain closed.

"People are required to stay at home and come out only for basic services while strictly following social distancing guidelines," the district administration said.

However, all essential services such as police, electricity, water-supply, media, telecom and internet, e-commerce delivery of essential goods, health and fire department, groceries, fruits, vegetables, milk booths, meat, fish, petrol pumps, LPG agencies have been exempted from the purview of the lockdown.

Malkangiri reported 36 positive cases today of which 35 are local contacts and one Telangana returnee. As many as 20 cases were detected from Malkangiri Municipality out of which 19 cases are a close contact of previously positive within the containment zone while another patient does not have any travel history.

Similarly, 15 cases were reported from Balimela NAC out of which 14 cases are a close contact of previously found positive cases within the containment zone and 1 case is a returnee from Telangana accommodated in the TMC of Balimela NAC. Another case was from Khairput block having symptoms.
