Rourkela: The authorities of Rourkela Government Hospital here have decided to shut the outpatient department (OPD) of the hospital for three days till July 15 after some patients tested positive for Covid-19.

A large number of hospital staff have gone under quarantine after identification of Covid-19 positive patients in recent days and the decision to shut the OPD has taken to avoid the spread of coronavirus in the hospital, Director of Rourkela Government Hospital stated in a letter.

As per the decision, the general OPD service of the hospital will remain closed for three days from July 13 to 15 except for the trauma and delivery case.

"All non-essential elective surgeries are postponed and patients advised not to come for routine OPD visits if it can be avoided or postponed," the hospital director said.

Only emergency OPD (Room No 1 & 4) will be functional during the closure of general OPD. Besides, the flu clinic will continue to function, as usual, the director added.

As far as coronavirus cases are concerned, Sundergarh district reported a total of 660 positive cases so for. The active cases in the district stood at 449 while 209 persons have recovered from the disease. The district also witnessed one COVID and another non-COVID death.

In view of rising cases of Covid-19, Sundergarh Collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan recently ordered the weekend shutdown in Rourkela and Kalunga Industrial area till July 31.
