Baripada: Alleging inordinate delay in prosecuting the culprits, the parents of Rama Devi Women’s University student Jharaphula Nayak, who died under mysterious circumstances, have threatened to immolate themselves in Bhubaneswar if they are not ensured justice on time.

Speaking to reporters, Jharaphula’s mother Jamuna Nayak on Sunday said that if the government fails to provide justice, she will set herself on fire in Bhubaneswar.

“It has been 18 days since her death, and despite possessing all the evidences, the police are yet to arrest the second accused Shakti Sekhar,” Nayak alleged.

She further said that the police is not revealing the exact cause of Jharaphula's death despite having her viscera and autopsy report.

Meanwhile, the mystery behind the RD university student death continues to deepen with each passing day. New revelations involving Rakesh Swain, the prime accused continues to confuse the followers of the case. A woman named Sushama Nayak from Brundeiposhi village in Mayurbhanj district has alleged that Rakesh had earlier requested her to offer 108 coconuts as a religious ritual on his name to get him out of another alleged murder case in Sunderpada.

In a related development, Jharaphula’s father was taken ill on Saturday and was admitted to the hospital after he complained of vomiting and uneasiness.

The medical officer of Karanjia medical said, “He has not eaten since last Friday, so the nausea could be due to acidity. His Blood Pressure was also high. We have already provided him pills and he is under observation right now. We will refer him to another hospital once he becomes stable,” said the medical officer.

It is worth mentioning here that, Jharaphula, who hailed from Marundeipasi village under Jashipur police limits in Mayurbhanj district had gone to Bhubaneswar on January 24 and attended classes next day.

On January 26, her body was found dumped on the roadside near Mulapala in Japura district.
