Jajpur/Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police has reportedly detained one of the accused Rakesh Swain in connection with the death of Jharaphula Nayak- the student of Ramadevi University, Bhubaneswar.

Jajpur police may take Swain into its custody for interrogation. Earlier today, they had claimed to have identified the accused who carried the body of Jharaphula and dumped it on roadside at Mulapala near Kuakhia in the district.

The Superintendent of Police (SP), Jajpur, informed that a special team of police which carried out raids at different locations, has identified the two accused. They will be arrested soon, he added.

Police got vital clues after examining the CCTV footage that captured the scene of two youths carrying the body in a scooter, sources said.

The investigating team also examined the Call Details Record (CDR) of the deceased. The girl, in her last WhatsApp chat with her brother on January 26, had said that she was with her friend Sonali.

Since then, she remained incommunicado, said Ramakant Nayak, father of the deceased alleging that her daughter has been murdered. He suspected involvement of a youth named Rakesh Swain who was in a relationship with her daughter.

Meanwhile, police are yet to reach her friend whom Jharaphula had named in her last chat.

The mystery of her death deepened further after staff of a Bhubaneswar-based private bus informed that the student had boarded the bus at Jaydev Vihar in Bhubaneswar and got down near Satsang Vihar.

"The girl was waiting for the bus with a guardian at Jaydev Vihar. She boarded the bus at around 11.15 am and got down at Satsang Vihar, saying that she forgot to bring her luggage," bus conductor said.

The body of the 21-year-old Nayak was found dumped besides a road near Mulapala square in Kuakhia of Jajpur district on Wednesday.

Jharaphula, who hailed from Marundeipasi village under Jashipur police limits in Mayurbhanj district had gone to Bhubaneswar on January 24 and attended classes next day.

On January 26, her body was found dumped on the roadside near Mulapala in Jajpur district.  Police had recovered her body and launched an investigation.
