Difficult to believe but yes, Ram Gopal Varma, a director who has helmed films across multiple genres and known for the gritty realism in his movies, confesses to have not heard about Odisha for the last 20 years till he met Apsara Rani.

In a tweet where the director has heaped praises on Apsara Rani, the actress of his ongoing Web film ‘Thriller’, RGV said after “hurricane” of Odisha (read super cyclone) he had not heard of Odisha till he met Apsara.

Apsara Rani who is reportedly from Odisha and had worked in a Telugu film '4 Letters' in 2019 is born and brought up in Dehradun and presently lives in Hyderabad. Apsara Rani-a model-turned-actress actual name is reportedly Anketa Maharana.

As per sources, Anketa’s name was changed to Apsara Rani in the lines of Silk Smitha and many other actors. Some of her pictures in sultry poses posted on social media have gone viral.

Besides, the director claimed that she is a newcomer and tweeted, “WOWWW 10,000 tweet followers in 7 hours ..That must be a record for a newcomer ..Hey @apsara_rani_ u are THRILLERing.”

However, his tweet mentioning that he hadn’t heard about Odisha since 1999 super cyclone has not gone down well with many.

He tweeted, “Before meeting Apsara, I dint even hear about Orissa since the 1999 hurricane..but after meeting her now, I realised that Orissa creates all kinds of hurricanes..it’s been a great revelation that Orissa has such beauties ..MORE POWER TO ORISSA.”

A director of his repute glorifying the state for hurricanes and beauties and saying of not hearing about the state since 20 years speaks a lot about his interests in the country. More so, his knowledge about Orissa not Odisha which he rediscovered through Apsara Rani.

Ram Gopal Varma has recently been booked in connection with his upcoming film Murder allegedly based on Pranay Kumar's murder in Nalgonda district.

Pranay's father reportedly filed a petition at Nalgonda court to stall the production of the film as it will affect the currently ongoing court proceedings of his son's alleged murder.
