Bhubaneswar: Union Minister of State for MSME, Pratap Chandra Sarangi urged Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to provide textbooks free-of-cost to students in schools run by non-profit organizations like Saraswati Vidya Mandir as they are facing serious resource constraints on account of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sarangi, in a letter issued on Monday, stated that the people of Odisha from all sections of the society have been hit hard by the pandemic leading to loss of livelihood.

As a large number of parents are finding it hard to pay for their children’s school textbooks even at the concessional rate of 50%, he urged the CM to provide textbooks free-of-cost to the schools run by non-profit organisations/educational societies as is being done in the case of government-run schools.

Sarangi further mentioned that due to the outbreak and the subsequent lockdown, schools like Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir, Vivekananda Sikshya Kendra, Shri Aurobindo School of Integral Education are facing serious financial constraints which has adversely affected their ability to help their students.
