Bhubaneswar: In the latest development pertaining to arrested IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak and his son Akash Pathak, the Berhampur SDJM court on Thursday allowed the Golanthara Police in Ganjam to take the father-son duo on one-day remand tomorrow.

As per reports, Abhay Pathak will be questioned in only one case while his son Akash will be quizzed in two separate cases of fraud.

The police on Monday had included the father-son duo in fraud cases which were earlier registered against Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi, arrested last year on the charges of defrauding youths.

Panigrahi was accused of collecting money on behalf of Akash Pathak in a fraudulent manner by promising jobs to several aspirants in Tata Motors.

After registering the cases, the police had appealed to Berhampur sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court to allow them to summon the Pathaks for further questioning in the case.

On January 27, 2020, a Vigilance Court had granted bail to the father-son duo, two months after their arrest. The bail was granted by ‘default’ due to the non-submission of the charge-sheet by the Vigilance.

The Pathaks were arrested in November last year by the anti-corruption wing on charges of accumulating massive wealth disproportionate to their known source of income.
