Bolangir: The continuous downpour under the influence of a low pressure in the Bay of Bengal triggered waterlogging in Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital (BBMCH) in Bolangir on Wednesday, adding to the misery of the patients.

The situation became unbearable with rainwater entering the medicine and surgery wards of the hospital. The patients, attendants were seen stuck on their beds after water entered the wards. With water everywhere, patients complained of unhygienic conditions and raised concerns over contagious diseases and infections.

This is not the first time when rainwater has entered the hospital. It is a regular affair. Even a short spell of rain results in waterlogging, said sources.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued rainfall warning for several districts including Bolangir.

Not only BBMCH, there are reports of waterlogging from several other hospitals across the State. Laxman Nath primary health care centre in Jaleswar block of Balasore district remained inundated after rainwater entered the hospital.
