Bhubaneswar: With a fresh low pressure brewing over the Bay of Bengal, the meteorological department on Tuesday issued rainfall alert for different parts of Odisha.

HR Biswas, director of Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre informed today that the low pressure area over north Bay of Bengal is likely to develop around tomorrow. Under its influence, several parts of north interior Odisha will experience light to moderate rainfall in the next 24 hours.

Heavy rainfall is also likely in the districts of Bargarh, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Kendrapara. The overall weather condition will be overcast in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in the next 24 hours with possibility of light to moderate rainfall.

“Though a detailed weather outlook will be given, there is possibility that the intensity of rainfall will increase with chances of heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall in one or two places of Odisha,” Biswas added.

From June 1 to August 18, Odisha received nearly 727.3 mm of rainfall which is nearly 7% less than normal rainfall of 784.1 mm. Malkangiri district has received excess rainfall while 24 districts in the state have received normal rainfall.

Five districts- Balasore, Khurda, Puri, Mayurbhanj and Nabarangpur have received deficient rainfall so far.
