Bhadrak: Tension gripped the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Bhadrak following the death of a youth. The deceased has been identified as Satyandeu Mallick, an ex-Army personnel from Thakurpatna village.

Alleging negligence in treatment, family members of the deceased patient allegedly manhandled the medical staff before gheraoing the doctor at the hospital.

As per reports, Mallick was initially taken to the Dhusuri Health Centre after falling into a pond. Later, as his condition deteriorated he was shifted to the Bhadrak district headquarters hospital where he breathed his last.

“My son was married recently. The doctors at the DHH did not attend to him despite repeated pleas,” alleged deceased patient’s father.

Hospital authorities, on the other hand, refuted allegations of negligence.

“The patient was referred from Dhusuri without any treatment. He was brought in a critical condition and minimum check-up was done at the OPD here before he was admitted to for treatment,” said Dr.S. R Hansda, a doctor at the hospital.

Hansda further informed, “We advised the patient’s family to shift him if his condition did not improve. Another doctor had also attended the patient. Without listening, a mob misbehaved and manhandled us,” he alleged.
