Sonepur: Cyber fraud and related crimes have become rampant in Odisha as in another such incident, over Rs 5 crore has been allegedly swindled from the National Health Mission account of Sonepur district health department.
The matter came to the fore on Thursday when the account manager of the district health department went to State Bank (Sonepur branch) to check the monthly transaction. However, to his utter dismay, he found the whopping amount missing from the account.
Upon informing about the same to the SBI bank manager, it was found that the amount was transferred to some other account.
The department has lodged a complaint with the State Crime Branch and an investigation into the matter has been launched.
“We came to know about the incident after getting a reconciliation statement from the bank. We have no clue about the transfer of the hefty amount. We have discussed the matter at our level and lodged a complaint in the Crime Branch. Hopefully, the culprit will be nabbed soon,” stated Dilip Kumar Panda, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Sonepur.
Earlier on February 20, a police team from Delhi’s Amar Colony Police Station had arrested a 35-year-old man from Basta area in Balasore district on the charges of online fraud and duping an export and import company of the national capital.
