Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police on Sunday seized as many as 3,199 bottles of cough syrup while it was being transported from Naraj to CDA area in Cuttack. Police said the codeine-based syrup was mostly being supplied to students and other youths who used it for intoxication.

Two persons including the owner of a pharmacy store has been arrested in connection with the incident.

As per reports, a team of Markatnagar Police conducted surprise raid near CDA after getting information regarding transportation of the illegal cough syrup by a person on a motorcycle.
During the search, the team arrested one Kulamani Mishra and recovered few bottles of cough syrup and other sedatives.

During interrogation, Mishra revealed the cops to have procured the cough syrups from one Dilip Sahoo, owner of a pharmacy shop at Choudwar. Acting on the tip off, cops conducted raid on Sahoo’s house and confiscated around 313 litres of cough syrup packed in 3,199 bottles and strips of Nite-10 tablets.
