Bhubaneswar: The Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) has called a dharna on November 8 at the Lower PMG square in Bhubaneswar to protest the arrest of OTV CFO Manoranjan Sarangi.

"We condemn the repeated attacks on OTV. These attacks on the fourth pillar of a functional democracy results in the depletion of democratic values. We have decided to stage protest at Lower PMG square at 11 am on November 8 against such dictatorial governance in the State," said NNKS convenor Akshay Kumar.

Manoranjan Sarangi was arrested around 10 hours after he was forcibly picked up by the State Crime Branch from his residence without any notice in the wee hours on Sunday.

The excessive action of the probing agency invited condemnation from several quarters with political leaders cutting across party lines slamming the Odisha government for its vendetta politics against OTV.

Moreover, the OTV CFO on Sunday alleged that the crime branch staff subjected him to inhuman treatment during detention for several hours. The violation of the legal and human rights of the senior employee of Odisha's most popular media house had made legal luminaries doubt if the police action was state-sponsored.

Sarangi has been remanded to two-day custody of the probe agency by a court late on Sunday night even though the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the CB had sought for five days custody.
