Bhubaneswar: Despite the clean chit given by a Tehsil-appointed government amin that there was no encroachment of land at Sarua in Khurda district, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch on Sunday arrested Manoranjan Sarangi, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Odisha Television Limited (OTV), hours after a posse of sleuths picked him up from his residence in the wee hours without any notice or intimation.

Even after picking up Sarangi, who is a diabetic with high blood pressure problems, the police refused to share his whereabouts with his family members, that include his 92-year-old ailing mother, who were shocked by the police brutality. Sarangi was denied medicine and food when he was woken up from his sleep by the police who whisked him away without citing any reason.

During his detention for several hours, the police subjected Sarangi to inhuman treatment. “I was picked up early in the morning without any intimation and the police meted me out inhuman treatment. I was harassed without any fault,” said Sarangi moments before his arrest.

Prior to his arrest, Sarangi was taken to Capital hospital for a medical examination.

Meanwhile, Sarangi has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC), Sections 420,423,467,468,471 and 120-B, along with Sections 3 (1) (g) (q) of SC & ST (POA) Act.
