Two Maoist operatives, who were allegedly involved in many crimes including murder and carried rewards on their head, surrendered before the police in Odisha's Malkangiri district today.
The two ultras, on whose head the state government had announced rewards of Rs one lakh each, surrendered before Inspector General of Police (South West), Y K Jethwa here, the police said.
Active in Maoist activities for around three years, the red rebels were allegedly involved in a number of offences including killings, explosions, pressure mine blasts, arson, attack on security personnel and government buildings, Jethwa said.
The duo, identified as Adma Kabasi (21) and Rama Madkami (20), belonged to Kalimela area of Malkangiri district and were active as armed cadres of Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of the banned CPI(Maoist), he said.
The Police said the Maoists decided to give up arms and return to the social mainstream as they were fed up with the activities of the ultras and felt the red rebels had deviated from the Maoist ideology.
