Bhubaneswar: Suspense continues over the identity of Ramachandran Subhas, the main accused in the Puri series train fire incident, and his three associates whose name he took during the interrogation by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) on Sunday.
It is clear that Subhas belong to Tamil Nadu. But his residential proof is yet to be ascertained. The investigating agency is also trying to elicit more information about his educational qualification and whether he lived in Puri and planned there to torch the trains.
Similarly, the identity and other details of three of his associates- Uttam, Gopal and Asraf- who were a part of the crime, has not yet known. The NIA and State Intelligence department are trying to figure out whether the trio has any link with any terror outfit.
"On his statement, there are so many links all over India. He disclosed different names like Asraf, Gopal and Uttam during the interrogation", Puri SP Satyajit Sarangi said.
The national probe agency, led by SP Prashant Kumar, which arrived in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, interrogated accused Subhas who is currently on a three-day GRP remand.
The investigating team may seek more remand as the polygraph test of the accused has not yet conducted even though the court had allowed for the same.
Officials have found out that the accused may have been employed by a group which is carrying out ‘dry runs’ across places of religious significance.
Sources said, Subash had carried out for reconnaissance in Tirumala and Akshardham with his associates.
Intelligence officials, who questioned him, said he had admitted his involvement in similar incidents in Rishikesh-Delhi train at Haridwar and Gaya stations this month.
