Sambalpur: Students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla on Saturday withdrew their dharna they had started since November 21 protesting against the Odisha government’s decision to absorb medicos of Sardar Rajas College in Jaring.

The VIMSAR students’ association president Jaishankar told mediapersons the general body meeting decided to call off the dharna as studies of students were getting affected. Students will join the classes as usual from Monday, he said adding, however, the legal fight against the decision will continue.

Earlier, the Odisha High Court said in its interim order the State government to complete the absorption process of the Jaring-based private college by December 23. The HC also asked the agitating medicos to concentrate on the health care services as well as their studies.

Abiding by the HC order, the State government on Friday issued a notification for admission and reallocation of 124 students of Sardar Rajas Medical College in three private and two government-run institutions of the State.

As per the notification, out of 124 students of Sardar Rajas Medical College, 54 would be abosorbed in MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, 55 in VIMSAR and five each in Hi-Tech Medical College, KIMS and SUM Medical College in Bhubaneswar.
