Malkangiri: The Odisha police will intensify operation against the Maoists very soon, said senior police officer and IG (Operation) Soumendra Priyadarshi on Saturday.
“We had come here to review the Maoist situation. Besides the district police, we have the BSF and the SOG to deal with the Maoist insurgency. As we have geared up operation against the Red Rebels in select areas in the state, we are having discussions with the BSF and SOG in this regard”, he told the media persons after a review meeting with the Central forces and the SOG personnel at the district SP office here.
To a question on the move of the state police to launch operation in the cut-off areas of the district, Priyadarshi said the district police had a joint combing operation with the BSF in these areas recently.
“It is our priority to intensify joint operation in the cut-off areas of the district to ensure timely completion of Gurupriya river bridge. Besides, we will start a joint operation with the Chhattisgarh police very soon”, he added.
He, however, said there are requirements and complications in carrying out operations in some areas. “We are examining these issues and planning our strategies accordingly”, he pointed out.
Earlier in the day, a three-member team of senior police officials, led by Priyadarshi with Manoj Kumar Chhabra, ADG and CMD of Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OPHWCP) and S Sharda, DIG, south-western range arrived at the district headquarters in the morning.
The team later went to the BSF camp at MV-3 and had a discussion with senior BSF officials. Besides, the team also had a meeting with the SOG personnel.
