Malkangiri: The murder of Badapadar panchayat sarpanch Jayram Khara by Maoists took a new twist after people of the panchayat alleged Khara was murdered by some people of Bangurupada over a land dispute.
As many as 1000 locals of Badapadar panchyat on Tuesday met the district collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) and drew their attention into the heinous crime.
They also demanded a thorough probe into the matter and stringent action against the culprits.
In their complaint, the villagers alleged that 25 acres of land of Khara was encroached by some locals of Bangurupada village and Khara was protesting against this.
In a fit of anger, the villagers of Bangurupada village had killed Khara, the locals alleged.
Bhanamati Khila, a relative of Khara said, “In the name of Maoists, some villagers killed Jayram on Christmas night over land dispute. So we have come here to file complaint in this regard.”
Ramesh Patnaik, former district Congress president said, “There is justification in the filing of the complaint. If the police fail to nab the murderers soon, the district Congress will call for a district bandh.”
Notably, Jayram Khara, sarpanch of Badapadar panchayat in the district, was killed by some miscreants on December 25 night.
