Berhampur: Odisha Director General of Police Sanjeev Marik today said Maoist activities are on wane in the state and very few people are involved in it.
"There was no Maoist activity in Ganjam and Gajapati districts and the movement of the Ultra Left cadres was restricted to Kandhamal and Boudh districts though red rebels from Andhra Pradesh were trying to spread their organization in southern part of the state.
And those from Chhattisgarh intrude in the western districts like Bolangir and Nuapada", he told reporters here.
He said very few people from Odisha were now in the Maoist movement in the state. "We think their number is only 10 to 15 per cent of the total cadres."
The strength of Maoist cadres from Odisha was gradually dwindling as more and more youths from the state are leaving the banned organizations and were returning to the mainstream.
Marik said government stressed on development of Maoist-hit districts and four top-level officers were engaged to oversee development works in Kandhamal, Malkanagiri, Nabarangapur and Nuapada on Tuesday.
"Development is one of the strategies to wipe out Maoist activities," he said.
Marik said with cyber crimes spurting in Odisha, cyber police stations are proposed to be set up.
One such police station would be set up at capital Bhubaneswar, he said adding at present the only one cyber police station functions in Cuttack.
"We have also submitted a proposal for setting up cyber police stations at Berhampur, Sambalpur, Rourkela and Balasore," Marik told reporters here.
The DGP said lack of awareness and ignorance are among reasons for increase in cybercrime in the state.
