Cuttack: Justice Amitava Roy will take oath as new Chief Justice of Odisha High Court on Wednesday on the premises of HC here.
Sources said the oath taking ceremony of Justice Roy would be held at around 4.30pm.
Prior to his new responsibility, Justice Roy was the CJ of Rajasthan High Court.
Justice Roy was born on March 1, 1953 in Dibrugarh of Assam and belongs to a family of lawyers. His father Late Anadi Bhushan Roy was a practising senior advocate. His Father-in-law, Late Salil Kumar Dutta had been a Judge of the Calcutta High Court.
Justice Roy was enrolled with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
He had also practised before the District Courts in the District of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia from 1976 to 1981.
Later he shifted his practice before the Gauwahati High Court in 1981 where he practised in the Central Administrative Tribunal and the District Subordinate Courts.
He was appointed as the senior government advocate of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in the Gauwahati High Court from 1991 to 1996. He was a member of Assam Law Commission till elevation as senior advocate by the High Court on June 3, 1999.
He was elevated as the Judge of the Gauwahati High Court on February 4, 2002.
On January 2, 2013, he became the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court.
