Bhubaneswar: One more infant died today at Sishu Bhavan in Cuttak taking the total death toll to 51. The deceased hails from Jaraka area of Jajpur district.
Earlier in the day, one more kid also died at the premiere medical here.
Six infants from Dhenkanal, Puri, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Puri and Ganjam districts were died yesterday.
Meanwhile, with infant death toll rising at Sishu Bhavan in Cuttack, a Central team visited the paediatric centre today to take stock of the situation.
According to sources, the team was led by the additional secretary of the Union Health ministry Arun Panda. The 7-member team also includes 3 health experts, informed sources.
Moreover, Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and senior BJP leaders K.V. Singhdeo, Bijay Mohapatra and Basant Panda also accompanied the team.
Centre will extend all possible assistance for a long-term solution to the problem, said Pradhan after reviewing the situation.
Notably, 47 infants have died at the hospital in the past nine days. Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan wrote to Union Health minister J.P. Nadda seeking the latter’s intervention into the matter.
