Bhubaneswar: With Raja Sabha polls round the corner, in a desperate effort to get the support of party MLA Mamata Madhi, the Opposition Congress on Tuesday revoked the suspension order passed against her. The move is seen as an attempt by the party to make sure that the Chitrakonda legislator votes for the party’s RS nominee Ranjib Biswal in the ensuing polls.
In last April Madhi was suspended from the party on charges of defying the party whip. She had remained absent during the voting of a no trust motion moved by the opposition Congress in the Assembly against speaker Pradip Kumar Amat.
Mamata’s support was crucial for the success of the resolution, which could not be moved as the party failed to rustle up the requisite support.
Announcing about this, Pradesh Congress Disciplinary Committee chairman Harihar Karan said that Madhi had failed to reach the House due to communication problems on that day and her absence during the voting on the no-trust motion was unintentional.
“The party felt that there is no reason to keep her under suspension any further,” Karan added.
