Bhubaneswar: After the Orissa High Court issued notices to at least six government engineering colleges in the state, over the increase in number of seats in certain courses without getting due approval from AICTE, the Employment and Technical Education & Training Department has responded saying that such a step has been taken to accommodate poor students and improve the quality of education.
Notably, Odisha Private Engineering Colleges Association (OPECA) filed a petition alleging that about six government engineering colleges of the state have increased the seats of existing courses without the approval of the regulatory body
Earlier, the State government decided to increase the number of seats by 1203 seats in six government colleges. Out of these 610 were BTech seats and MTech seats were increased by 593. The registration for engineering colleges in the current academic session has begun and counseling will commence from July 10.
