Balangir: A mother and her son died of diarrhoea and their other family members were affected by the water-borne disease at a village in Odisha's Balangir district, official sources said today.
More than 12 persons of Cheremera village under Jhankarpali gram panchayat have also been affected due to the water-borne disease and were under treatment at Bolangir district headuarters hospital, B K Kindo, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Bolangir, said.
The mother and son who died on Friday were identified as Mando Bhati (70) and her son Uma Shankar Bhati (40).
The condition of Uma?s wife Sukanti and daughters Jamalini, kamalin and Amalini?s was serious. They were being treated at the hospital.
A team of doctors from Chudapali Community Health Centre (CHC) rushed to the village for undertaking necessary steps to handle the situation and prevent spread of the disease.
The people of the village might have been affected by the disease as they were using contaminated water from the nearby ponds, the CDMO said.
All possible steps have been taken to combat the disease, he said.
