Puri: When the holy town of the State is already embroiled in controversy over misconduct of ‘Bramha Parivartan’ ritual, the gang-rape of a destitute woman near Srimandir has brought another shame.
According to reports, the woman, who used to live near the Lion’s Gate of the temple and seek alms for living, was dragged and being raped in an under construction building.
The victim was found a local trader and the medical examination revealed that she is three-month pregnant.
On being informed, the local police started investigation and arrested one of the accused Mahavir Rana from the spot on the basis of information provided by the trader, as the victim could not be able to provide any details.
The woman was believed to be from Balasore while the accused hails from Chandanpur village in the district.
