Puri: Thousands of devotees this morning pulled the ‘sagadi’ (cart) carrying the ‘daru’ (holy wood) of Lord Balabhadra from Alamchandi temple to Koili Baikuntha in the Jagannath temple premises here through its north gate.
Thousands of people thronged Bada Danda (grand road) to witness the unique ritual and were seen chanting verses with full devotion.
The daru was later taken to Singhadwara (main gate) and Pachisma Dwara (western gate) after temple servitors performed the necessary rituals.
Meanwhile, the sagadi to transport Goddess Subhadra’s daru has already been constructed. After completion of rituals, it is likely to be taken to Puri tomorrow or day after, sources said.
On the other hand, the daru for Lord Jagannath is likely to be chopped on 9th or 10th of this month and it will reach at Puri by 20th, they added.
