Bhubaneswar: As per the earlier proposal of the State government, admission to Post Graduation courses at Capital Hospital here will take place soon for which the government today fixed deadline for upgrading the state-run Hospital into a Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Science (PGIMS) by March 2017.
Informing this after a review meeting chaired by CM Naveen Patnaik, Health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said 26 PG seats will be filled up in the first phase for which the State government will spend Rs 170 crore. It was decided that the infrastructure work would be completed in two years, he added.
"There would be 26 PG seats in eight departments--medicine, surgery, gynaecology, orthopaedic, pathology, anaesthesiology, radiology and pediatrics.
Similarly, the construction work of five medical colleges in State was also reviewed by the chief minister. Bolangir, Koraput, Balasore, Puri and Baripada will get one college each for which the construction is in full swing, the minister pointed out.
All five proposed medical colleges would have student intake capacity of 100 each and around Rs 200 crore would be spent for upgradation of all district headquarters hospitals to a full-fledged medical college and hospital in each case.
The project cost will come from Centrally-sponsored Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surakhsa Yojana scheme, he said adding the Centre will provide 75 per cent while the state will shoulder the rest 25 per cent cost.
