Malkangiri: After threats from Maoists to vacate the village within a week, as many as 40 families of Kanaguda village under Kalimela block in the district on Tuesday left their homes fearing capital punishment by the red rebels.
According to sources, in a kangaroo court on Sunday the Maoists have threatened the villagers to left their homes within a week as some locals were working as police informers. They have also announced capital punishment for the villagers who will not vacate the village.
Irma Kabasi, a local resident said, “As many people of the villagers have surrounded before the police in the recent past, the Naxals have threatened to vacate the village. They have also killed two villagers suspecting them police informer. In a bid to safeguard our lives we are vacating the village.”
Another fleeing villager Bhima Kabasi could not hold back his tears as he described how his brother was killed by the Maoists and how he has left his village out of fear.
Earlier, 64 families of Chitrakonda cut-off area fled their village in fear of Maoists. However, no steps have been taken by the administration yet to rehabilitate them.
It’s worthwhile to mention here that, the Maoists abducted two villagers –Soma Madkami and Rama Marhi on October 14 and later killed them triggering panic in the village.
A group of armed ultras stormed into Kanaguda village under Kalimela police station limit and took away Soma Madkami and Rama Madhi from their houses on October 14 late night and their bullet riddled bodies were found in the village outskirts on next morning.
Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said that the Maoists are losing their support base, which is why they are terrorizing the villagers to become their supporters.
On the other hand, the surrendering of Maoist supporters in Malkangiri district continues. 15 Maoist supporters including 3 militias of Sangel village under Kalimela police limits surrendered before Malkangiri SP today.
