Bhubaneswar: In an effort to improve traffic management in the Twin City of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, the State government is planning to set up two more traffic police stations, said police commissioner R P Sharma at the inauguration of Road Safety Week here on Sunday.
Talking to the media, Sharma said as many as 170 personnel will be engaged in these two police stations.
Of the two newly proposed traffic police stations, one will be set up either in Chandrasekharpur or Khandagiri area of the capital city while another will be set up in Buxi Bazar area of Cuttack, he informed.
“We have submitted a proposal for setting up of two traffic police stations one each at Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to manage traffic system in the twin city as these places are overcrowded,” said twin city police commissioner R P Sharma.
Culture minister Ashok Panda, who was also present at the Road Safety Week event, said, youths who are driving so fast should keep in mind that their family members are waiting for their return and remembering this they should drive carefully as it will help ensuring a safe road journey for all.
At present, there are 22 and 21 police stations are operating in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack respectively.
Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Mayor Anant Narayan Jena said, “In the first phase, 450 buses will be ply to ease traffic on the roads of Bhubaneswar.”
He further said, “Like big cities, people here will use the button to cross the road. As per the mechanism, green signal will appear and vehicles will stop letting walkers to cross the road. For differently-abled people, this system will be very helpful.”
Besides, Bhubaneswar RTO is planning to hire 100 unemployed women and transgenders to run pink autos in the Capital city.
Sanjay Kumar Behera, RTO-2, “The women and transgenders will be provided with driver’s training free of cost. Afterwards, a driving license, FAST AID training, afterwards, they will given licence and an approval to ply pink autos.
