Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly witnessed uproar today after the Opposition party legislators came down heavily on the ruling-BJD government for not furnishing details of the Biju Yuva Vahini programme to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).

On September 6, the CAG had written to the state government's Sports and Youth Services department seeking various details on the Biju Yuva Vahini programme.

In the letter, the CAG sought several details like the objective of the programme, sources of funds for the scheme, its annual budget, current status of expenditure allocation, executing agency of the programme, information on beneficiaries and steps taken on ensuring transparency.

However, the state government informed that since the officials are busy in preparations for the upcoming Hockey World Cup, they would not be able to cooperate in the audit.

“The Sports department in the garb of organising the Hockey World Cup denied sharing information about the Biju Yuva Vahini to the CAG. It is clear that the state government is trying to hide corruption,” said BJP leader KV Singhdeo.

However, BJD legislator Samir Das said “Opposition is intentionally trying to disturb the House proceedings. If the CAG has sought clarification, then the state government will surely give them the report, but there is no need to panic.”
