Bhubaneswar: For the third consecutive day, Odisha recorded a steep hike in COVID-19 cases. As many as 469 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the State’s tally to 9070 on Sunday.

The COVID-19 death toll in the State also mounted to 36 with two more persons succumbing to the disease. The deaths have been reported from Gajapati and Sundergarh districts. One more non-COVID death was reported from the State today.

Of the 469 new cases, highest 116 cases were reported from Ganjam district, followed by 94 cases from Cuttack, 66 cases from Sundergarh and 27 from Khurda. Four NDRF personnel, who returned from Cyclone Amphan duty in West Bengal, have also tested positive for COVID-19.

Earlier on Saturday, Odisha reported 495 news COVID-19 cases and five deaths. This was for the second time that the State witnessed 450-plus COVID-19 cases in a single day. A highest-ever single-day spike of 561 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Friday.

Of the 94 new COVID-19 cases reported from Cutack district in the last 24 hours, 74 cases are from Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) limits.

Similarly, 19 new COVID-19 cases were reported from Bhubaneswar in the last 24 hours.
