Bhubaneswar: With the detection of 495 new positive cases in the last 24 hours, Odisha’s COVID-19 tally crossed 8600-mark on Saturday. Apart from the new cases, five persons succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 34 in the State.

While three deaths were reported from Ganjam district, two persons died of COVID-19 in Khurda district, informed Health and Family Welfare Department.

A highest of 216 new cases were reported from Ganjam district, followed by 50 cases from Khurda, 36 from Sundergarh and 28 cases in Mayurbhanj.

As per the I & PR department, the COVID-19 tally reached 8601 with the detection of 495 new positive cases today. This is for the second consecutive day that the State has reported 450-plus COVID-19 cases on a single-day.

Earlier on Friday, Odisha recorded highest-ever single-day spike of 561 cases. Ganjam had reported highest of 283 cases followed by Cuttack (81), Rayagada (76), Khurda (26), Bargarh (21), Bolangir (19), Mayurbhanj (10), Sambalpur (8), Keonjhar (6), Jagatsinghpur (6), Kalahandi (5) and Koraput (4) yesterday.

Apart from 561 new COVID-19 cases, two persons from Ganjam district had succumbed to the disease yesterday.
