Mayurbhanj: Tension ran high at Nachhipur village under Padadiha range in Mayurbhanj district following death of a youth who was missing since a week.

The family members of the youth along with fellow villagers staged a dharna in front of the forest office alleging that the forest department employees have beaten him to death on suspicion of being a poacher.

According to sources, the youth had gone to the Similipal National Park on last Friday and did not return home. Meanwhile, the forest department officials informed the youth's family members that he was under treatment at a hospital.

The youth was reportedly treated at a health centre at Udala and later shifted to Cuttack where he succumbed while undergoing treatment.

As the body of the youth reached the village, the family members and fellow villagers created ruckus alleging that he was killed by the forest department employees. They kept the body in front of the forest office and staged a protest seeking justice.

The reaction of the forest department could not be obtained in the matter.
