Bhubaneswar: In view of forecast of severe cold wave conditions in Odisha, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) on Sunday issued advisory for the municipal commissioners and collectors of all districts in the State.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its bulletin said cold wave to severe cold wave condition likely to prevail over the districts of the interior Odisha during next three days. Accordingly, the IMD has issued yellow and orange warning in respect of these districts.

The SRC observed that there is increased likelihood of cold related illness among people which may aggravate due to prolonged exposure to cold. Livestock may also be affected due to prolonged exposure to cold.

People in the districts under Orange/Yellow warning and also in other areas where intense cold is felt have been advised to stay indoors during night and avoid exposure to cold.

Movement during night especially in two-wheelers or in open cars must be avoided, the SRC stated.

The SRC advised people to take necessary safety measures while using electrical and gas heating devices to beat the cold.

Collectors have been directed to make arrangements for opening of school buildings, community buildings and other available buildings for use as shelter during night by homeless and needy people.

“A report indicating the number of such buildings used as night shelters and number of people sheltered therein be sent to the office of SRC on daily basis till the cold wave situation is over,” the advisory said.

The SRC asked the officials to undertake necessary public awareness campaign on do's and don'ts to protect the people and livestock from cold wave both in rural and urban areas.
