Bhubaneswar: The surge in COVID-19 cases continued in Odisha with 4237 new positives reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total count of coronavirus infections to 192548. While 2485 cases were detected in quarantine, 1752 are local contacts, informed State I&PR department.

The death toll has mounted to 736 as 15 more patients succumbed to the virus on Tuesday, the highest so far in a single day.

Four patients have succumbed to the disease in Bhubaneswar, while two deaths were reported in Puri district and one each in Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh and Nuapada districts.

Of the fresh cases, highest of 647 cases are from Khordha district, followed by Cuttack (577), Puri (219), Jharsuguda (205), Jajpur (201), Jagatsinghpur (173) and Balasore (161) districts, the I&PR data mentioned.

The total number of patients who recovered from the infection in Odisha stood at 153213, while 38546 are active cases who are either in home-isolation or undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

The recovery rate stands at 79.57 per cent in the state, while the cure rate has steadily improved to 81.25 per cent in the country as on today.

As per official report, 45321 samples were tested on Tuesday for COVID-19 that include 8599 RT-PCR, 36607 samples via Antigen testing, and 115 samples via Truenat testing, taking the number of samples tested cumulatively across the state to 2905731.
