Bhubaneswar: Odisha saw another single-day spike of 4000-plus COVID-19 cases as 4,180 more people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. With this, the State’s coronavirus tally reached 171341 on Friday, informed I&PR department. The state had reported its biggest daily spike of 4,270 coronavirus cases on September 15.
As per the State Health & Family Welfare department, 13 more patients succumbed to the infection during the period, taking Odisha’s COVID-19 death toll to 682.
Of the fresh cases, as many as 2466 positives were detected in quarantine centers, while 1714 cases are local contacts.
Khordha district continues to top the chart registering the highest number of new cases at 688, followed by Cuttack (492), Jajpur (184), Sundergarh and Puri (166 each), Mayurbhanj (163) and Rayagada (160).

Three fresh fatalities were reported from Khordha district, two each from Kendrapara and Puri districts, and one each in Cuttack, Bargarh, Bolangir, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj districts.

Odisha now has 37140 active coronavirus cases, while 133466 people have been cured of the disease so far. The cumulative testing count stands at 26.67 lakh, including 48146 tests on Thursday.
